Students Can Suprise You
I love teaching. It is both frustrating and extremely rewarding. You can spend hours preparing for a new project or subject and the kids will all take naps when you present it. However, the day will come when all your hard work pays off and they will suprise you. My 5th/6th grade students love to question everything and they are very good at looking bored about anything to do with school. But this week, I got their attention. They are all fired up to learn about Ancient Egypt and they loved the mummy project I put together. My reward, however, came after class. One of my students came up to me and THANKED me for teaching the lesson. She was really excited about the subject matter and told me she appreciated the new information she had learned. WOW! This is why I teach. When even just one child's eyes light up because he or she finally understand the information that you are trying to impart - it is the greatest feeling in the world!
