Field Trips
My co-operating classroom goes on a fun and interesting field trip each month. We are a part of the adopt-a-grandparent program at Marymoor Assisted Living. Over the course of this year, we have done many different activities with the folks there. One day, we just visited and played board games. The trip at Christmas include making gingerbread houses out of milk cartons and graham crackers. That trip was extremely fun. I was suprised to see one of the boys in my class, who is a bit of trouble-maker and has no patience with any of his classmates, very patiently helping one of the residents break up her crackers and then he frosted them and helped her to put her house together. In January, we had the children interview the residents. This was extremely fun for the kids and they learned all sorts of history. The students then wrote up their interviews into 5-paragragh essays. Today, my students read their essays to the residents who laugh and applauded. This has been a great learning experience. The kids constantly ask when we are going back and the residents love us to come.
